New member, first post. So far I have 1 Harbor Freight kit  and 2-35 ah Harbor Freight batteries. When hooking up these in parallel does the charge controller need to be hooked up to negative on one battery and positive on the other or can it just be hooked up to the closest one? The other question is how many kits can be controlled by one Harbor Freight controller. I have an array rack built for four.

Welcome to the forum Leonard. You have the right idea, it's best to connect to the positive on one battery and the negative on the other.

Maximum of 4 panels per controller, even that might be pushing it though, some members have been seeing more then 1 amp per amp lately. Controller only handles 4 amps. Usually we think of each panel putting out less then an amp.

2-35- hook positives together, negatives together. The positive on one battery will go to you charge controller, the negative on the other battery will go to your charge controller. As Ray said, I have to kits and some times see 8 amps. I believe location has a lot to do with it as well (Louisiana here). Might not be a bad idea to get a slightly bigger charge controller and use the kit charge controller as a PDU (power distribution unit). Make sure jumps between batteries are the same length as well (short as possible, stranded wire).
